MateoTechLab | How to Build a Difference

Engineering
I’m a self-taught teen maker turning imagination into real, wearable tech. My name is Mateo, I am an Engineering YouTuber who loves to document my projects through films. From imagination to ideas; come see the evolution of my robotic arms and functional Iron Man hands in person, plus the early 3D printed prototypes that started them all. Feel free to stop by and say hello to Pico, my shoulder robot and sidekick who's full of personality!

What began as personal projects, these inventions led me to present at science fairs and competitions all over the world. Today, I focus on inspiring young creators to start building, like I once did. This year, I’ll be sharing how to build a difference, at Maker Faire Miami.

Mateo Jarquin

I’m a self-taught teen maker, and engineering YouTuber. I love to build wearable robots, robotic arms, and bring fictional tech to life, while documenting my projects through films. Watching movies, travelling, and listening to the same records my grandparents once listened to inspires me with new ideas and perspectives from which I build off of. I’ve presented at science fairs and competitions worldwide, and I’m passionate about inspiring others to turn imagination into real, hands-on creations.

What inspired you to make this project?
I've always been a maker at my core. As a child I built my ideas out of LEGO, then created countless Minecraft worlds, and now I design and 3D print my own robots and inventions for the world to benefit from. Mark Rober was a big inspiration towards me sharing my projects online. I believe every generation needs positive engineering role models.

What are some of the challenges you have encountered and how did you address them?
The thing about being a self-taught maker is that you don’t know all the answers, and that’s okay. I’ve faced many challenges with designing complex robots, teaching myself electronics, and making prototypes that actually work. I overcame them by experimenting, learning from failures, researching online, and making little improvements on my designs each time. Each challenge became an opportunity to improve, learn, and make my creations stronger and more functional than they were before.
